These instructions apply to MAC OS X 10.3.9 - 10.4.x (Tiger) only. Use these instructions to connect your Tiger based Apple MAC to the McMaster MacSecure wireless network. MacSecure uses Wireless Protected Access (or WPA2 for short) and provides encryption between your computer and the Wireless Access Point that you connect to.

• Requirements:
• Macintosh OS X 10.3.9 to 10.4.x (Tiger)
• Airport wireless card and software (802.11 compliant)
• Latest System Updates (Apple Menu - Software update) * Important - WPA is a newer protocol and ensuring your system is up to date is critical for it to work properly
• From the Apple Menu, select System Preferences, then select the Network icon. Select Airport next to Show, and check that Show Airport status in the menu bar is checked. Change the By default, join pop down from Automatic to Preffered networks






• Click the + button to add the new network.






• For Network Name:, type MacSecure, (Note it's Case Sensitive). At the Wireless Security drop down, select WPA2 Enterprise.






• Next, type in your MAC ID and password at the prompts. Under 802.1x Configuration select Automatic.





• You may wish to change the order of the wireless networks presented. Moving a network to the top means that your MAC will attempt to connect to that network, if available, first. It will try the next network, and so on, until it connects. Drag the network name to the top of the list to change the order. On the Network Window, click the Apply button in the lower right. In about 20-30 seconds, your MAC should connect to MacSecure using the credentials you supplied. If it does not, select MacSecure from the Airport menu.







• You will be prompted to verify the certificate. Click the Show Certificate button and click Continue.






• Verify the certificate is wireless.mcmaster.ca and check the box beside Always trust "wireless.mcmaster.ca". Click Continue.
