Encrypted WPA Wireless - Mac OS X (10.5.x)

These instructions apply to MAC OS X 10.5.x (Leopard) only. Use these instructions to connect your Leopard based Apple MAC to the McMaster MacSecure wireless network. MacSecure uses Wireless Protected Access (or WPA2 for short) and provides encryption between your computer and the Wireless Access Point that you connect to.

  • Requirements:
    • Macintosh running Mac OS X 10.5.1 or later (Leopard)
    • Airport wireless card and software (802.11 compliant)
    • Latest System Updates (Apple Menu - Software update) * Important - WPA is a newer protocol and ensuring your system is up to date is critical for it to work properly
  • From the Apple Menu, select System Preferences and then select the Network icon. Select Airport from the list on the left and make sure Show Airport status in menu bar is checked. Change the Network Name pop down to Join Other Network...

  • Under Network Name, enter MacSecure exactly as shown (it's case sensitive). Under Security, select WPA2 Enterprise from the drop down menu. Enter your MAC ID for Username and Password. Leave the 802.1X setting as Automatic and check the box Remember this network. Finally click the Join button.
