Alumni Web Community (AWC) Questions

I tried to register for the AWC and my record is not found.  Why?

There are several reasons your record may not be located.  Here are suggestions for you to try, and one or more may be applicable to you.  If after trying these suggestions you are still unable to login, please email alumni@mcmaster.ca for assistance.

  1. A common issue for recent graduates is your name may not be on the alumni database yet.  Once convocation is complete in June or November, your student record is transferred to the alumni office to be inputted into our database.  There is a waiting period of approximately two-months before your name and information is added.  Until your name is on our database you will be unable to register for the Web Community, as it will not be able to locate you on our system.
  2. If you have married and changed your name, please try registering with both your maiden name and married name.  Your login needs to match our database record.
  3. Your class year is your graduation year, not the year you entered university.  Check that you have entered this correctly to ensure a match to our database record.
  4. When registering for the AWC you need to your use your first degree (faculty and grad year) on the registration form.  If you have multiple degrees and enter the information for a second or graduate degree, the system will not match to your record.
  5. Please use your full first name, rather than a shortened version, and ensure you have the first name in the first name box and last name in the last name box.
  6. If these options have not worked, it could another issue such as an error in the information you have entered or that we have you on our database under a different name.  If this is the case you may email alumni@mcmaster.ca for assistance providing us with your name, grad year, faculty and address so we can identify you on our database.

How do I get my alumni number or my student number?

Your alumni number is on the mailing label of each edition of the McMaster Times alumni magazine.  If you do not have a copy available, you may email alumni@mcmaster.ca for either your alumni number or student number.  Please provide us with your name, grad year, faculty and address so we can identify you on our database.

I received an email notifying me my McMaster email account is expiring.  What can I do?

The McMaster Alumni Association offers Email Forwarding, a free service that allows alumni to forward messages through their McMaster address to their personal email account.  This is not an account where you read and respond to messages, so you will need to forward any messages that you wish to keep from your McMaster account to another personal account of your choice, before your student account is closed.  For more information or answers to further questions, visit our Email Forwarding FAQ page.
