SoBi Bike Share

McMaster Bike Share has been a great success on campus. Social Bicycles are a great way to commute without hassle. Bicycles are available at several 'hubs' on campus, and can be rented out for any amount of time, and can be reserved to ensure a bike is available at a hub near you. McMaster students and staff are eligible for a discount. Click here to learn more and sign up! Don't have a bike for Bike to Work Day? Rent a SoBi Bike!!

MACycle CO-OP

McMaster is fortunate to be home to its very own non-profit bicycle repair shop. Run by the MSU, MACycle Co-op is not your regular bike shop. In addition to providing repairs and advice, they also believe strongly in empowering people to do their own repairs. To that end MACycle provides cheap access to bike repair tools and offers cheap used parts for the struggling student.

As well, MACycle is in a partnership with the City of Hamilton to save bikes that were headed for landfill. MACycle collects them, fixes them up and sells them cheap to members of the McMaster community.

Bike Parking & Storage

Bike racks

All bikes stored outdoors on campus must be locked to a bike rack. Please do not secure bikes to trees, fences, benches or railings. Fortunately, there are more than 1800 bike rack parking spaces located at McMaster's main campus, and additional bike racks will be coming this spring! Map of bike rack locations

CycleSafe Bike Lockers

McMaster University maintains 28 CycleSafe bike lockers which are available for rent by members of the McMaster community. One set of lockers is located on a portion of the motorcycle pad between JHE and BSB to serve the south end of campus. The second set of lockers is located near the parking lot on the north side of TSH, to serve the north end of campus. The newest addition is located on the cement pad at the north side of E.T. Clarke Centre. Rentals are $40/semester or $100 for one year. Those interested in renting a bike locker can take their application form to McMaster's Parking Services. Please forward questions to sustainability@mcmaster.ca

Secure Bike Storage Facilities

McMaster maintains a secure bike storage facility on the west side of Chester New Hall. This facility can house 48 bikes, has video surveillance and swipe card access. Space is available for $5/term. Those interested in obtaining a parking space in the Facility can take their application form to McMaster's Parking Services. Please direct questions to sustainability@mcmaster.ca

Hamilton Health Sciences and Faculty of Health Sciences staff, faculty and students have access to the secure bike storage facility located on the East side of the Hospital. There is no charge, but passes are provided on a first-come, first-served basis. The facility houses space for 40 bikes, has video surveillance and swipe card access. Applicants will be contacted to make arrangements for their photo ID to be programmed with Proxima Card Access.  Please forward completed applications to Security Services, HSC1D8, attention: Bicycle Shelter. Please direct questions to Derek Bailey at Security Services (905) 521-2100 ext. 76159,  baileyde@hhsc.ca

Bike Storage in Residence

For students in residence, bikes can be stored in designated storage areas inside your building. Ask your Community Advisor for a key when you move in.

For everyone else, bicycles are only allowed to be stored indoors with the approval of a supervisor in your work area.

Lockers & Showers

Biking can be quite a workout, so it's nice to have somewhere to change. There are showers and change rooms located in the David Braley Athletic Centre. For students, their use is included in tuition fees. Staff and faculty may purchase a four month pass or a daily guest pass for occasional use to access showers.

There are also showers and change rooms located in a number of other buildings on campus, such as in the basement of ETB and the second floor of IAHS. Ask your building supervisor about facilities that might be available to you.
