Program Overview:

Preamble:
Creating a culture of sustainability at McMaster requires that all parties are actively engaged in incorporating environmental social and economically sustainable practices into their working environments. Efficient and open communication between stakeholders and the Sustainable Office is essential to establish successful community engagement.

Purpose:
To encourage efficient and effective communication and community engagement.

Responsibility of Manager, Sustainability:
Facilitate efficient and open communication from the internal and external stakeholders of the university to the Sustainability Manager that ensures initiatives are conducive with the goals and expectations of the campus community.

Role of the Ambassador:
To act as a point-source correspondent able to bring forward comments, questions and suggestions from their defined area to the Sustainability Manager, encouraging easy and reliable community engagement. The ambassador will champion engagement in sustainable activities in their area.

Method

  • Ambassador should have an interest in promoting sustainability at McMaster
  • Ambassador will act voluntary with no set time commitment
  • The name and contact of ambassador will be posted on the Sustainability website
  • Stakeholders include both internal and external parties related to the university
  • Areas covered by an ambassador will be defined depending on size, geographic distribution and interest level
  • The sustainability manager will provide updates of events, initiative progress and other related information to ambassadors which can be distributed to their areas as they see fit
