Electronics Collection, Reuse and Recycle

Do you want to declutter your home and/or office of outdated and/or unwanted electronic devices? If so, take this opportunity to champion sustainability by offering these unused items for reuse and/or recycling on April 25th.

For McMaster's 2013 Earth Day celebration, the Office of Sustainability, in collaboration with Facility Services, University Technology Services and BioSphere will be collecting outdated or unwanted electronics. Items collected will be available for reuse. Any equipment not taken for reuse will be fully recycled according to standards compliant with the Ontario Electronic Stewardship Program.

Introducing the Flex Pass

To encourage staff, faculty and students to take a sustainable mode of transportation, Security & Parking Services has introduced the Flex Pass- a ten visit reloadable parking pass. Flex Passes expire 12 months from the date of purchase, and can be used for many lots on campus. For the fair-weather cyclist or the potential walker who occasionally has off campus meetings, or for anyone who drives to campus nine times or less each month, the Flex Pass provides a more sustainable option for on-campus parking.

McMaster's 2012 Sustainability Annual Report

Each October, the Office of Sustainability releases the McMaster Sustainability Annual Report to highlight the achievements and commitments made by the University to develop a culture of sustainability at McMaster.

The initiatives highlighted are a result of collaboration between many departments, groups and individuals. A strong student involvement is evident in the initiatives completed this year, all of which have included student involvement and 18 of which have been directly led by students.

Sustainable Future Project

The Sustainable Future Project (SFP) aims to build reciprocal relationships between students, community members, and McMaster University, and engage all parties in the journey towards a sustainable future.

Founded in 2012, the first major initiative of the program  is the development of the Undergraduate Course: SUSTAIN 2A03: The Sustainable Future Project, which aims to create more knowledgeable and more effective change agents.

In the quest to build relationships and develop the Sustainable Future Project, we are looking for enthusiastic community members, McMaster staff and organizations who would like to contribute to, and benefit from, students learning at McMaster.  Learn more about ways to get involved!

What would you do with 32 extra minutes each day?

Residents of the greater Toronto and Hamilton area are asked to visit your32.com/mcmaster to share what they would do with 32 extra minutes each day. That number refers to the time the average commuter will save if the regional transportation plan, The Big Move, is funded and realized over the next 25 years.

Want to help spread the word? Check out the campaign toolkit. For more information, please contact Mary Koziol.
