Get Involved

The Sustainable Future Program wants YOUR Help

There are two specific ways to get involved:

  1. Become a "Project Champion" As a project champion, you have the opportunity to submit a project idea for students enrolled in the Sustainable Future Program. If your project is chosen by a student group you will then have the opportunity to support the students through the planning, design and implementation involved in bringing the idea to life.
  2. Become a "Community Mentor" As a Community Mentor, you will have the opportunity to  act as a mentor for students enrolled in the Sustainability Future Program. Tell us about your interests and expertise and you'll be listed on our database. Students will be able to contact you to ask for feedback and help along the way. You can contribute as much as you like and set your own limits to your involvement.

If you are interested in getting involved, please fill out and submit one or both of the forms below.

Please note that Sustain 3A03 is offered in Septermber and Sustain 2A03 is offered in January. Project proposals should be submitted prior to the last week of August and December respectively to ensrue sufficient time for students to review the proposed projects.

Please contact sfp@mcmaster.ca with any updates or changes to your submission. Responding with your submission confirmation e-mail attached would be greatly appreciated.

  • Become a Project Champion
  • Become a Community Mentor

Become a Project Champion
To provide guidance and direction to students throughout their experiential learning project, we are looking for people who want to work directly with students to act as Project Champions. It is anticipated that the individual submitting a project idea is also interested in acting as the Project Champion.

In order to support more than 20 experiential learning projects each term we are looking for help from members of the McMaster and broader community. Want to help students start a local garden? Have an idea for a community event? Have an idea for a project that would benefit student learning related to sustainability? That's the type of stuff we're looking for.

Projects should be of an interdisciplinary nature, include some aspect of community engagement and have some practical outcomes achievable within a three-month academic term. The goal is to provide students with the opportunity to lead a project with your support. Projects should provide flexibility for student experiential learning and the opportunity for innovation and creativity.

Become a Community Mentor
To provide further support to students developing and implementing their projects, we are looking for community members to act as mentors and/or resources. Community Mentors may be individuals with expert knowledge, have unique skills and/or ability, as well as able to provide mentorship to students. Community Mentors will not take on the role or responsibility of a Project Champion, but rather assist by working with the student group and their Project Champion to develop the project for successful implementation.
