Obesity has conventionally been defined by Body
Mass Index (BMI) - but not everyone with an increased BMI
is at high risk.
On the other hand some people with lower BMI
could also benefit from losing weight.
When deciding whether or not to treat obesity,
many considerations besides BMI need to be taken into account
- weight distribution (Apple vs. Pear), familial risk and
other risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure or
sleep apnea.
This talk will discuss why measuring BMI alone
is not enough to decide who needs obesity treatment and who
does not.
This is a free public
lecture.
All are welcome!
