David M. Malone was appointed as President of IDRC on July 1st, 2008, for a term of five years. Prior to that, Mr. Malone served as Canada`s High Commissioner to India and non-resident Ambassador to Bhutan and Nepal. Other positions he has held include: Assistant Deputy Minister in Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade; President, International Peace Academy, New York; Director General of Policy, International Organizations and Global Issues Bureaux, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada; and Ambassador and Deputy Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations.
Mr. Malone has published extensively on peace and security issues, in book form and in journals. He has taught at several universities, including Columbia and NYU. His most recent book is The Law and Practice of the United Nations (OUP, 2008). He is at work on a book addressing contemporary Indian foreign policy, for release in 2011 from OUP.
