Inaugural Brockhouse Canada Prize Lecture

Bertram BrockhouseOn October 12, 1994 all of Canada thrilled to the news that McMaster University’s Bertram Brockhouse – one of our country’s pre-eminent physicists – had won the Nobel Prize in Physics.

The press release from the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that it had “decided to award the 1994 Nobel Prize in Physics for pioneering contributions to the development of neutron scattering techniques for studies of condensed matter with one half to Professor Bertram N. Brockhouse, McMaster University, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, for the development of neutron spectroscopy and one half to Professor Clifford G. Shull, MIT, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA for the development of the neutron diffraction technique.”

In 2004, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council announced the Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering advancing Dr. Brockhouse’s vision of interdisciplinary teamwork and collaboration in Canadian research and celebrating excellence of the kind exemplified by Dr. Brockhouse in his own career.

 

McMaster University and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council have partnered to sponsor the Brockhouse Canada Prize Lecture and invite you to the inaugural public lecture, which will be held on October 12 -- commemorating the date that Dr. Brockhouse was announced as the winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics.

The lecture will be delivered by Drs. Sajeev John and Geoffrey Ozin, University of Toronto, the inaugural winners of the Brockhouse Canada Prize for Interdisciplinary Research in Science and Engineering.
