Dr. Harriet MacMillan, an expert on child maltreatment including
physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect, believes that
communities have to be involved in ways to improve the life
of all their kids and that the top-down approach is not going
to work without the community’s involvement. MacMillan,
who is director of the Offord Centre for Child Studies Advocacy
and Assessment Program, is also studying Aboriginal health
including the assessment of health of Aboriginal children,
youth and adults living on reserves in Canada.
