What use are all the computers in the world if your machine is cumbersome to use or if Web sites are impossible to navigate? Dr. Milena Head, management science and information systems in the Michael G. DeGroote School of Business, studies electronic business and human-computer interaction.

Her research focuses on how the interface can help to build online trust and can help computer users make better decisions.

Dr. Head studies trust and privacy in electronic commerce, mobile commerce, usability, Web navigation, relationship-building in the Web retail marketplace, Web-based agents, online negotiation, supply chain collaboration, and team performance and satisfaction.

She is the director of the McMaster eBusiness Research Centre and has been McMaster’s faculty director for the World Congress on the Management of eBusiness since the inaugural event was held in 1999, and is director of the eBusiness stream in the School. She consults with organizations on e-commerce strategy and implementation issues, Web site engineering and usability.

“Trust is a critical component for any business transaction. In the eBusiness environment, a properly designed interface can help engender trust, enhance information access and facilitate the decision-making process. The importance of the interface should never be underestimated. After all, from the user’s perspective, the interface is the system.”
