The information technology revolution of past decades has
been largely defined by microelectronic technology. During
the next several decades, the focus will shift to the even
smaller scale of nanotechnology as we look for ever-more efficient
ways to store and share information.
Dr. Deen studies critical nanotechnology components needed
for communication systems used to transmit data, speech and
video signals. His work has potential applications in anything
from long-distance telecommunications and chip-to-chip interconnections
in computers to medical imaging and linking of massively parallel
processors and mainframes.
