“Throughout 2008 McMaster strengthened its positions as one of Canada’s leading universities and maintained its status as one of only four Canadian schools listed in the Top 100 Universities in the World.” said Colum Bastable, chair of the University’s Board of Governors.  “That success is made possible by the talented faculty and staff that support the University’s teaching and research.”

McMaster University employs more than 7,800 faculty and staff. Total full-time and part-time student enrolment is more than 23,000. The University’s annual operating budget for 2008/2009 is $437-million. The consolidated budget (which includes research and capital spending totals) is $812-million.

“While we must deal with the short-term economic challenges we cannot lose focus on the long-term development and sustainability of the University.  That means making sure we have the best team of faculty and researchers, which means we must offer competitive salaries,” said Bastable.

McMaster has taken several steps to contain costs and reduce expenses including a voluntary compensation freeze by the president and vice-presidents for 2009.

The public may access the salary disclosure list in the Office of Public & Government Relations, Chester New Hall, Room 111, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

McMaster University, one of four Canadian universities listed among the Top 100 universities in the world, is renowned for its innovation in both learning and discovery. It has a student population of 23,000, and more than 140,000 alumni in 128 countries.
