McMaster to benefit from new Ontario government funding
Hamilton, ON - McMaster will be able to make improvements to campus thanks to significant new capital funding from the provincial government.
Ted McMeekin, Minister of Government and Community Services and MPP for Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale, along with Hamilton Mountain MPP Sophia Aggelonitis today announced $9.1-million in funding for McMaster University.
The funding is part of a $200-million dollar investment in campus renewal projects at the province’s universities and colleges unveiled by John Milloy, Minister of Training Colleges and Universities.
“This government’s commitment to universities has been outstanding,” said Ilene Busch-Vischniac, McMaster’s provost and vice-president, academic and acting president. “The leadership of the Premier, Minister Milloy, Minister McMeekin, Sophia Aggelonitis and many others, coupled with their belief in the important role universities play in the province’s success, means that we will be able to renew and modernize campus, reduce our energy needs and improve safety and security.”
The campus renewal funding is part of the province’s $1.4-billion infrastructure fund announced in the Fall Economic Statement. The province has targeted the new funding to projects that will help institutions increase energy efficiency, improve safety and security systems, and renew existing infrastructure to maintain and repair existing facilities.
