About Mosaic

McMaster University is in the midst of a multi-year project to modernize its business processes and replace its current patchwork of business systems with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. Renewing McMaster's business systems was a key priority in VISION 2020: Technology Strategic Directions, which was adopted as McMaster's IT strategy in 2010.

The new system will handle five main functions: finance, student administration, research administration, human resources and business intelligence. Replacing all of these systems simultaneously gives the University a once in a generation opportunity to modernize its core business processes and adopt current best practices. Ultimately, the new system will provide several benefits, such as enhancing the student experience, supporting student growth, improving routine workflows and strengthening business intelligence.

Mission

Implement an integrated enterprise solution to provide core systems functionality that reduces risks, improves efficiency and effectiveness, implements effective internal controls, enables better management of the University and improves the stakeholder experience.

Goals

    • student administration
    • finance administration
    • research administration
    • human resources
  • Implement comprehensive reporting capabilities (business intelligence).
  • Integrate and consolidate data.
  • Implement flexible workflow capabilities.
  • Implement a solution that meets audit requirements.

  • Minimal customizations will be made to the solution implemented.
  • Processes will be modified to become simpler and more consistent across the University.
  • Project risk must be minimized and managed.
  • Strong scope and expectations management.
  • University stakeholders will actively participate in all phases of the solution implementation.
  • Organizational Change Management will be proactively implemented throughout the life of the project.
