MIEH Guest Scholar Program
MIEH will sponsor the Guest Scholars Program. The program supports advanced research and writing on any aspect of environment and health, in any of the social sciences, sciences, humanities or health sciences.
Researchers on sabbatical leave, PDFs, and individuals with extramural funding from granting councils or other sources are invited to apply to become MIEH Guest Scholars. Guest Scholars will engage in a self-defined research program on any aspect of environment and health, in any of the social sciences, sciences, humanities or health sciences. Tenure will be granted for periods of up to 10 months, with extensions for longer projects. Applications may be submitted at any time. Guest Scholars receive the same privileges as Research Fellows, with the exception of funding.
Guest Scholars can propose or be engaged in any major research or writing project associated with environment and health. Applicants with an inter-disciplinary background are particularly encouraged to apply. Guest Scholars will be provided with shared office space and a computer (resources permitting), administrative support, as well as access to McMaster's academic, institutional and recreational resources. They will benefit from interaction in a supportive, interdisciplinary community of scholars and have multiple opportunities to present their research. As part of their tenure at MIEH and McMaster University, they will be expected to present their research in a variety of forums, including on- and off-campus seminars, conferences and other educational venues. Guest Scholars will also benefit from interaction with MIEH faculty and other academic units across campus, further fostering outreach and awareness of MIEH.
Application
Candidates will be required to apply to the Institute via downloadable forms (see below).
Application packages include the following:
1) three copies of the application form
2) CV
3) research proposal
Applications may be received at any time, and tenure may start at any time.
Applications will be evaluated by a committee comprised of MIEH research associates. Guest Scholars may also be supplemented with compensation from other fellowships, research grants, sabbatical leaves, or other sources as appropriate and allowed. Teaching opportunities (remunerated) within various campus units, including Health Studies, Geography, Economics, or Sociology may also arise.
