History & BackgroundMcMaster Children's Centre was instituted on campus to accommodate the need for child care in the McMaster community. We are a licensed, non-profit, self supporting corporation that is administered by a director and Board of Directors.McMaster opened its doors in 1975, and has continued to serve the community to this day. We are currently licensed for 63 children, ranging in ages from 18 months to 5 years.
Children Learn Through PlayAt McMaster Children's Centre, we believe that children learn best through play. We plan activities every week to enrich children's development. This plan is posted on the Parent Bulletin Board for your input as well.We have several different areas of play in each of our three groups. Throughout the day, a variety of activities are available for the children. Our daily schedule provides for both indoor and outdoor activities. Examples of these areas include:
StaffAll of our staff are qualified Early Childhood Educators, offering the highest quality of care to our children and families. Our Early Childhood Educators are given the opportunity for ongoing professional development and are certified in Basic First Aid and CPR. Our cook is also a valuable part of the program. Meals and snacks are planned by the cook and in consultation with the Director and according to the Day Nurseries Act. We offer a hot nutritious lunch and 2 nutritious snacks throughout the day.
Our Philosophy
"To provide the optimum in alternate quality care for children and their families."
The services and facilities of the Centre are offered not only to the McMaster University and Medical Centre communities, but also to the community at large. Our long term goal is that children will meet their full potential in all areas of development:
*We provide an environment where children can learn about the world around them and provide opportunities for healthy relationships with other children and adults. *We participate co-operatively to help children with special needs. *We recognize and are aware of each individual child's development so they can be encouraged to grow.
