Results of interim appointment to the Board of Directors

There is presently one (1) vacancy on the Board for a term of office ending with the Spring 2016 board elections. By-law 2, Section 8 allows the Board of Directors to appoint a member to the Board the balance of a vacated term.

Nominations were opened for a four week period. As no nominatons were received for this seat, it will remain vacant until elections are held in Spring 2016.

Introduction to the Board Structure

 

MAPS is governed by an elected Board of Directors. All Directors are part-time students at McMaster University (in an undergraduate program or taking courses at the Centre for Continuing Education) and are elected for two-year terms at either a meeting of the membership or through electronic referendum.

Terms of office are staggered, so that around half of the Board is elected each year - usually between January and April (elections coincide with other Association business including the release of the audited financial statements). The Board meets at least four times each year (usually more often) and its primary role is to set the strategic direction of the Association, decide on policy, and ensure that the objectives it has set for the Association are being met. The Board elects the Association president and vice presidents from among its membership each year.

Health and Dental
Opt-in Period
is now CLOSED

The Term 1 Opt-in period to purchase coverage in the MSU's Health and Dental Plan closed on September 30th.

The Term 2 Opt-in period will run from January 5-29, 2016. The premium for 8 months coverage will be announced shortly.

The online membership transfer system developed by MAPS, the MSU, and representatives from Student Accounts and Cashiers, Student Accessibility Services, and the Registrar's office resulted in significant improvements in processing time for membership transfers. Stakeholders will be reviewing the results over the next few months to see if further improvements can be made.
