MAPS Centennial Award (Degree Students)

The purpose of this award is to recognize the outstanding efforts of degree students who undertake many roles in addition to the academic. The award is worth $500 (each) and a plaque. In order to qualify the student:

  1. Must have completed 24 units;
    Must have a "B" average based on last 24 units completed;
    Must have completed these 24 units through McMaster University; and
    Must have obtained the majority of all credits completed as a part-time student.
  2. Have overcome particularly adverse circumstances in order to attend university
    OR
    Have demonstrated outstanding achievement or commitment in activities distinct from university studies.
    Some examples of the kind of activities or circumstances that would qualify are:

    • significant voluntary community involvement;
    • significant university committee or student association involvement;
    • serious health problems
    (Please note the following would NOT meet the requirements because they are not exceptional for part-time students: returning to school after many years away; working full-time while going to school part-time; homemaking and/or raising children. However, any of the above may be added as backup to indicate the context in which the achievement/commitment was carried out or the adverse circumstances that were overcome.)
