McMaster provides bursary assistance to students who demonstrate financial need.
A bursary is a non-repayable grant, not a loan.
Bursary funds are intended to assist with a student's education related costs. To be considered for a bursary, students must be fully registered at the time of application/payment and have submitted a complete bursary application by the published deadline.
Undergraduate Bursaries
The bursary application deadline for all full-time undergraduate students is available through an Online Bursary Application September 15, 2009 - January 15, 2010 @ 4:30pm. Students who applied by November 30th will have their student accounts credited by the end of January.
Bursary applications in term 2 will only be available to those students who begin their studies in January.
To be eligible for consideration, you must have picked up your first OSAP (or out-of-province) loan document for the current academic year, providing accurate gross income figures on your confirmation of enrolment form or have otherwise demonstrated financial need.
International students in levels 3, 4, and 5 are also eligible to apply online, however, international students in levels 1 and 2 are not considered for an undergraduate bursary.
Students with extenuating circumstances are asked to see a Student Loans Officer in GH-120.
Undergraduate bursary payments for fully registered eligible students will be made directly to student accounts by December 15th (for term 1 only students) and January 31 (term 3 students) & February 28 (term 2 only students).
Attention McMaster Aboriginal Students:
We are pleased to announce that the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities have allocated funds towards a new 2009/2010 Aboriginal Post Secondary Education and Training Bursary at McMaster University. This bursary program is to provide direct support to Aboriginal students (full-time and part-time) with financial need to access additional aid towards their post secondary education while attending McMaster University.
The Indigenous Studies Program is very excited about this bursary opportunity for First Nations, Métis and Inuit students. Unfortunately, due to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act in Ontario, our Program is not aware of every Aboriginal student who may be attending McMaster. This year a small number of Aboriginal students have self-identified though our courses and with the Indigenous Student Counsellor, however, we are aware that many more Aboriginal students attend McMaster. Therefore, we are asking your office to inform all your Aboriginal students who are attending McMaster University to apply to the bursary program.
Aboriginal students can find the application through MUGSI by clicking the “My Financial Aid & Scholarships” link and then select “Bursary Application Form”.
All application steps must be completed by 4:30pm on the bursary deadline date.
