What is a minor in Indigenous Studies?
A student who is in a 4 to 5 year major/Honours Degree program at McMaster is able also to work
towards a minor in another area. For students who are interested in Indigenous
Studies, they must take: Introduction to Indigenous Studies and 18 additional units of Indigenous Studies courses - totaling to 24 units of Indigenous Studies courses. Students declare their minor in Indigenous Studies when they are applying to graduate.
If I'm working on a 3 year degree, can I get a minor in Indigenous Studies?
A student who is working towards a 3 year degree at McMaster does not have the
same options as those who are working on a 4 to 5 year Hononours Degree program. However, those students can work towards a Combined B.A. Program in Indigenous Studies and Another Subject. Admission into this program is a completion of any Level 1 program, with a Cumulative Average of at least 3.5 including a grade of at least C- in three units from INDIG ST 1A03 OR 1AA3 and three units from CAYUGA 1Z03, MOHAWK 1Z03 OR OJIBWE 1Z03 and satisfaction of admission requirements for the B.A. program in the other subject.
Do I have to be Native or Indigenous to take courses?
We encourage all students to take our courses!
What kinds of jobs would I be able to apply for if I did have a minor in the
Indigenous Studies Program?
The Indigenous Studies Program enhances the students knowlegde and the students main academic area of study. Students who do have a minor in Indigenous Studies go
on to all different career areas. Our Program offers students a greater understanding
