Indigenous Elders Summit 2004
This is the first documentary in a series of four drawn from the Elders who spoke during the six-day International Indigenous Elders Summit 2004 hosted at Six Nations of the Grand River, Ontario. The Unity Ride and Run, a healing journey on horseback and foot, traveled over 300 miles from Okanagan territory in British Columbia to reach the Summit in 2004. Hundreds of Elders from North, South and Central America gathered on Haudenosaunee territory for six days and developed an Elders Declaratino. The documentary highlights the Elders' understanding of historical trauma and directions to 'begin to heal our nations'. Youth voices chronicle their perspectives and responses to health and social concerns. This documentary works towards raising consciousness of Indigenous peoples' struggle to preserve their knowledge and culture.

Featuring traditional leaders and knowledge carriers including Tom Porter, Mohawk; Chief Arvol Looking Horse, Lakota; Dr. Maria Yellow Horse Brave Heart, Lakota; Leon Secatero, Navajo; Elizabeth Penashue, Innu; Renie Jobin, Lubicon Cree norther Alberta; Luciano Mutumbajoy, Union of Yage Healers, Columbia Amazon as well as representatives from the Inuit and the Arhuaca Nation of Columbia. All speak to healing collectively from historical trauma using Indigenous knowledge and traditonal practices.

All proceeds will be utilized to support the production of three more documentaries focusing on specific themes of the Elders Summit, as well as supporting the ongoing work of Indigenous Elders and Youth Council, a volunteer group promoting Indigenous knowledge preservation.

The film is in NTSC DVD format for approx 50 minutes and is directed by Dr. Dawn Martin-Hill, Academic Director of Indigenous Studies Program, McMaster University.
