The Modulation of the Soleus Stretch Reflex by Electrical Conditioning Stimuli to the Peroneal and Plantaris Nerves

Contact Person: Michel Ladouceur (mla@smi.auc.dk)

Discussion & Conclusion

In summary, it is possible to condition the soleus stretch reflex of healthy participants with an electrical stimulus. This inhibition is dependent on the nerve stimulated with a better inhibition occurring when the common peroneal nerve is stimulated. This inhibition is dependent on the amount of tricep surae activation. The inhibition is inexistent below 1MT and is saturated at 2MT. This inhibition seems to be active through a post-synaptic inhibitory mechanism and a proportion of the inhibition seems to be generated centrally.
