>It really depends on what endpoint you are after.  With embryo culture we are limited to the studying the early stages of craniofacial devlopment.  Even so, this is only possible because rodents have a yolk sac placenta which enables this lat culture.  If you wanted to look at neonates then they may look more human (eg. some use Macaque monkeys) but you probably can't culture them and you would still have pharmacokinetic differences to deal with if you only use in vivo methodologies.
