Abstract

We report a case of a vasitis nodosa in a 33-year-old man with a history of vasectomy. He was admitted to hospital due to a vaso-vasostomy for procreative purposes. Both vasa deferentia were biopsied and the submitted tissue was routinely processed. Grossly, both segments resected were thickened (0,9 cm in diameter in each case). Histologically, they showed a proliferation of small, intramural ductules lined by cuboidal cells with abundant cytoplasm and nuclei with large nucleoli. Prominent granulomata with abundant spermatozoa were found as well as few ductules which were intermingled with them. Foci of perineural and endoneural invasion by epithelial cells were readily observed. Vasitis nodosa is a rarely described, benign lesion of the vas deferens, usually developed after undergoing a vasectomy. Benign nerve involvement by epithelial cells and cytological atypia have been observed in this lesion and its differential diagnosis thus should include metastatic adenocarcinoma.
