I would like to share with you an email I got from Jonathan Emmanuel, a fourth–year Life Sciences student who has become a friend of mine over the last couple of years. A little while ago, I tried to tell him that Mac’s donors have a big impact on his life as a student. At the time, he was not convinced. He is now:

Hey Ben. Just don’t say you told me so, OK? I found out the other day that my new lab equipment came from a fund made of donations from alumni. When I mentioned it to a buddy, he wasn’t surprised because he received a bursary named after a donor. Then I went to a club meeting in MUSC and the room had another grad’s name on it. That is when I truly realized how alumni support can be seen everywhere on campus. I hate it when you’re right. First time for everything!

- Later, JE

The best part about Jonathan’s note is that he’s just scratching the surface. The next time I get the chance, I will tell him that our donors help fund experiential learning and varsity teams. They help send students to conferences and enhance student services. They provide scholarships and they help connect the McMaster learning environment to our communities through everything from local outreach programs to travel grants.

I hope you will consider supporting our students by making a gift to McMaster. There are dozens of ways to influence the Mac student experience, so pick the one that is most compelling to you and give online at givetomcmaster.ca or over the phone at 905-525-9140 ext. 23071.

My friend Jonathan will be very grateful if you do.

With thanks,
