Sarah Babcock

My name is Sarah Babcock, I’m in of Psychology Neuroscience and Behavior. Over the summer I got the opportunity to work in Dr. Sheddon's EEG lab. I think it gave me more confidence. There were a lot of things stepping into an EEG lab that I didn’t feel ready or prepared to do. I learned a lot over the summer, it taught me that I can push past the boundaries that I set for myself and learn a lot.

I’ve had a lot of good experiences here, but I would say something that stands out is my work as a teaching assistant. I’ve gotten the chance to pass on my passion and pass on my knowledge for psychology onto first years and it’s been a really fun experience. To begin with, it gave me the chance to be in a research lab, real life, for the first time. I got to learn a lot of new techniques, I got to meet a lot of people, and I feel a lot more prepared going forward to graduate school.

It’s really nice to know that somebody cares about you, even if they don’t know you, they care about your education. I think it’s motivated me more and driven me to keep working hard because there is someone else who cares about how I’m doing here and I want to really make them proud. Once I am ready and able to support other people I think that that’s an amazing experience. It’s so important to give back, and I wouldn’t have had the opportunities to do the things that I got to do unless someone did that for me. So, I think it’s important to pass that along. Thank you so much for your support.
