My name is Kyla Sask. I’m a PHD candidate in Biomedical Engineering. I was truly honored to find out I was being awarded the first Dave Williams Graduate Scholarship in Biomedical Engineering.
Dave Williams is a Canadian astronaut who, a couple years ago, became a professor at McMaster within the department of surgery and has stepped up to contribute to the very first graduate scholarship in Biomedical Engineering.
Dave Williams is a truly inspiring person who has accomplished so much. It’s really made me want to do more, contribute more and reach the heights that I think are possible.
The funds I’ve received I've taken to be invested and I’ll use them towards paying off the financial debt I accumulated throughout my undergraduate studies. I’ve worked hard to pay for all of university myself, so it’s really helped me feel more comfortable in leaving, when I finish my education, being debt-free.
As soon as I’m done my doctorate and I’m able to pay off my financial debt and get into the working world, I definitely would consider paying back and supporting students at McMaster when I get the chance.
