My name is Graydon Simmons and I am in the Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours Program. I really like the fact that you get a big mixing of multicultural people coming to the campus and having lots of student groups and extracurricular activities on campus.
I’m definitely interested in a career in Health Care and in the Health Sciences field. And many of those careers to get exposure in your undergraduate university experiences, you can’t really take on positions that are for pay. So as a result of receiving the Entrance Award and not having to be focused on making summer jobs with the highest wage possible, I’ve been able to engage myself in a variety of research positions. For two summers I spent time researching in a Paediatric Hospital doing Emergency Department research, and that was really fun for me, just because it was really cool to see the hustle and bustle of the emergency department room as an undergrad.
I definitely remember one time in first year, in a Chemistry lab, I pulled open a drawer to take out, you know, the materials that I needed, and it said Science Class of ’86 on it and I was kinda like I guess that means somebody donated money for me to have the lab equipment today. And it kind of made me realize was that a lot of my experiences here have been basically dependent upon the donation from others. So you know, no looking back on it, I would like to try and pay it forward when I’m done and give back to the school.
It&rsqo;s changed my life in a variety of different ways, one of them just being by the fact that it’s broadened my set of experiences you know. I’ve definitely gone on to do a lot of different courses that I would never have been able to take or really learned about in high school. I’ve now met a huge, wide variety of people from different places that have, you know, become some of my closest friends.
Thank you so much for your gift.
