There
are several reasons to take a close look at McMaster as a place
for your graduate studies.
Faculty:
McMaster’s faculty members are active researchers who are
at the forefront of their disciplines. Many enjoy national and international
reputations. McMaster currently holds 70 Canada Research Chairs
in a diverse range of disciplines, from Molecular Biophysics to
Critical Ethnicity and Race Studies. Launched by the federal government,
the Canada Research Chairs Program helps Canadian universities attract
and retain
not only some of the world’s best researchers but also its
most promising graduate students. Animated by a spirit of curiosity
and discovery, faculty and graduate students work together to develop
their research projects.
Graduate
Programs: Most of our programs are research-oriented. A
research thesis is an important part of many Master's degrees as
well as of all Ph.D. programs. Some departments have course work
Master's programs. There are course requirements, too, to help prepare
for the research, but the close interaction between supervisor and
student on the research is a central part of graduate education
at McMaster.
Financial
Support for Students:
Most graduate students at McMaster receive financial support, such
as teaching assistantships, research funds,
University graduate scholarships, external scholarships, and bursaries.
McMaster
University has adopted a policy of ensuring that all full-time Ph.D.
students receive at least $17,500 per year. Many programs have support
levels in excess of this amount. Please contact the person in charge
of graduate recruiting in your program
of interest fo find out more.
