NOTES

Dancers are expected to be able to demonstrate a high level of fitness, creativity and technical skill for each chosen style. Dancers may audition/participate in more than one company (Contemporary/Urban), yet this may prove to be a time management challenge, especially for first-year students.

Dancers who possess a number of dance or movement skills will have a better chance of selection. Company members often cross-over in a few pieces, or produce hybrid styles. A Dance Bio will be filled out at the audition. Dancers with acro/gymnastic/circus skills should be sure to note this.

Dancers are expected to choreograph after one year in the company, but are also eligible to choreograph in their first year.
Committed membership/participation in other dance performing groups is not allowed unless they are professional, with the exception of selection for (Mac's OUCH [Ontario Universities Competition in Hip Hop] Team. We expect dedication (not distraction), just like Mac's varsity athletes playing for only one team. Dancers may perform/choreograph in the Mac Dance Club show (January 2011), up to two pieces that are not in a dancer's style with the Mac Dance Company - e.g. Tap, Ballet, Irish, Acro.

Our companies have one show each semester (November & March) and will compete at Guelph, Brantford, Oshawa and Toronto against other Ontario universities and colleges.

If you are unsuccessful in these auditions, there are still many opportunities to dance at Mac. Besides over 30 Recreation classes there is the Mac Dance Club with approx 150 members, as well as other dance clubs and groups organized by students.

Opportunities are available for dancers to teach children and special populations, and to work in paid Admin positions.
