Accessing Special Characters within Word Perfect

Word Perfect, in its standard installation includes writing tools appropriate to default language. The writing tools are spellchecker, Thesarus and Grammatik. In order to support another language as the default or as a secondary language, the corresponding language dictionary must be installed. Additional languages for WordPerfect can be installed through the Add & Remove Program in Control Panel. It may require your WordPerfect Office disks to complete the installaion.

However, it is possible to use characters contained in some language, such as French and German without installing the language dictionary. To utilize these characters, it is necessary to access the Special Character option within Word Perfect.

To access the Special Character option, from inside the document, press CTRL and W. this brings up a menu screen.

The field SET at the top maybe set to ASCII. Clicking on this bar expands it to include a host of other options. Scroll down and select Multinational.

Select the multinational character you wish to insert and click on the Insert button. Click on the Insert and close button if you would like to close this option.

Note: Spellcheck will identify these as potentially misspelled words since the correct language dictionary is not installed. Care should be taken to ensure these words are spelled correctly.
