Configuring Mozilla ThunderBird for use with UnivMail Open ThunderBird. Click on Tools in the Menu Bar. Select Account Settings. Click on Add Account. Select Email account and click on Next.
Enter Your Name and Email Address. Click on Next.
Select IMAP and at Incoming Server enter univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca. Click on Next.
At Incoming User Name enter your UnivMail userid. Click on Next.
The Account Name will be shown as userid@univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca. Click on Next. Click on Finish. In the Account Setting window click on userid@univmail.cis.mcmaster.ca to view the settings. Click on Server Settings. Click on Use Secure Connection (SSL). In the drop down beside “When I delete a message”, select Mark It for Deletion. This means deleted messages will have a line through it. They are removed from your account when you select Compact Folder from the File menu. Click on Advanced…. Click the IMAP tab. Click Show only subscribed folders. This will remove the check mark there by default. Click on OK.
Click on Outgoing Server in the Account Settings window.
ThunderBird will display the UnivMail folders after you successfully enter your UnivMail password. Click on Inbox. Deleting Messages Deleting MessagesThe default setting for deleting messages on an IMAP server is to "mark" them for deletion. The icon will have a red "X" on it and the message header will have a line through it ("strikethrough"). This means the messages are still in your account on the server, taking up disk space, and will not be removed from the server until you "purge" them. When you are certain you don't want the marked messages anymore, purge them from the server by selecting Compact Folder from the File menu. Purged messages cannot be retrieved. NOTE: Unwanted messages should be deleted and purged from folders to reduce disk space. The default setting for deleting messages on an IMAP server is to "mark" them for deletion.
