Turning Off Automatic Form Fill and Deleting Existing Records in Netscape 8.0

The function of automatic form fill is, by default, turned on in Netscape 8.0. In order to remove this functionality from Netscape 8.0 it is necessary to first disable the function and then to remove the file containing the form fill data that has already been stored.

Technology Services does not recommend saving/remembering your password for security reasons.

Turning Off Automatic Form Fill

  1. Type about:config into the Location bar (and press Enter). Below the location bar, you should see Filter: with a text field (also called a text box) to the right.
  2. Type browser.formfill.enable into the text field. You should see under the text field "browser.formfill.enable".
  3. Double-click it to change it from value true to false.
  4. Close Netscape by clicking on File in the menu bar and selecting Exit. If you have multiple tabs open, click on Close tabs.

Deleting Existing Formfill data

In order to remove the data that has already been collected, it is necessary to delete the Formhistory.dat file. Netscape must be closed when you delete the file.

  1. Click on My Computer.
  2. Go to location C:\Documents and Settings\your windows username\Application Data\Netscape\NSB\Profiles\*.default

    Example: C:\Documents and Settings\doej\Application Data\Netscape\NSB\Profiles\z5ila0p9.default
  3. Locate the file Formhistory.dat. Click on it and press delete. Confirm Deletion if prompted.

All collected data has now been deleted and no additional form data will be collected or displayed.
