Netscape Browser 4.79 – 404: Page not Found

After installing Netscape 4.79 browser, you received a 404: Page not Found error message and the browser shuts down after a few seconds.

Option 1 (recommended)

[Quickly execute the following]

Open Netscape browser.

Click on Edit in the Menu bar and select Preferences.

Click on Navigator under categories

Under Navigator starts with: select Blank page

Click on the OK button

Close Netscape

Option 2 (for Tech savvy users only)

Open Notepad and open or browse to C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\

Change Files of type to All Files

Select pref.js and click on Open.

Modify user_pref("browser.startup.homepage" value to:

user_pref("browser.startup.homepage", "http://admoraweb.mcmaster.ca/dataserv-htm/appsmenu.htm");

Click on File in the menu bar and select Exit

If you wish to set the home page to http://admoraweb.mcmaster.ca/dataserv-htm/appsmenu.htm

Open Netscape browser.

Click on Edit in the Menu bar and select Preferences.

Click on Navigator under categories

Under Navigator starts with: select Home page

In Location under Homepage enter http://admoraweb.mcmaster.ca/dataserv-htm/appsmenu.htm

Click on the OK button

Close Netscape
