
English Language Proficiency Requirements
If your first language is not English, you must meet the McMaster University’s English Language Proficiency requirement prior to commencing studies:
- Attended a Secondary School (High School) or Post-Secondary College in full-time academic studies (excluding ESL courses), in an English speaking country, for at least 3 years immediately prior to your anticipated start date at McMaster or
- Attended an accredited English medium Secondary School (High School) or Post-Secondary College (excluding ESL courses) in full-time academic studies, for at least 3 years immediately prior to your anticipated start date at McMaster or
- Attended an accredited English medium University in full-time academic studies for at least 1 year immediately prior to your anticipated start date at McMaster or
- Resided in an English speaking country for at least 4 years immediately prior to your anticipated start date at McMaster or
- Achieved an acceptable score on an English Language Proficiency Test as outlined on the chart below. Registrants are required to submit a paper copy of their TOEFL scores to the Centre for Continuing Education (CCE), McMaster University. All satisfactory test scores must be achieved from a single writing.
NOTE:
- Canadian citizenship, in and of itself, is not enough to satisfy the English Language Requirements, nor does a credit in Grade 12 English (or the equivalent)
- The University reserves the right to require applicants with an English Language Proficiency score disparate from their academic English prerequisite achievement to present further evidence of proficiency.
