Web Design & Development Course Descriptions
294-003 Web Writing & Visual Web Design (3 units) Register for this class.
This course combines two important aspects of web design that are often overlooked - how to write for the web and why do websites look the way they do. Just having flashy photos or interesting text does not make a good site. How it is presented is equally important. The web-writing component will look at understanding your audience, what is good writing, the importance of style, and grammar. The visual web design component will look at art and colour theory, website design, website prototyping and website interfaces.
We continue with understanding your audience, identifying criteria for good writing, and examining the importance of style and grammar. Together these tools will provide the student with a deeper understanding of the complete web design process and better ways to create a professional online presence.

The Web Design & Development (WDD) final project is a self-directed course in which students utilize their skills to assist real-world clients in constructing a website or a web-based solution to satisfy the client’s business needs.
Working together with CCE and faculty members, a student arranges a placement with a company/organization. The student and company/organization enter an agreement whereby the student designs a project which results in a free website or web-related solution for the company. The project concept must be within the scope of the skills learned during the WDD Program.
Once the formal proposal is approved, it is expected that approximately 100 hours will be devoted to complete the project. Projects should be designed based on this 100-hour target.
Students must select an advisor from the WDD faculty and are responsible for seeking out a host company or organization. The WDD Program Manager is available to assist the student by fielding questions and providing Final Project information and guidelines to the host site. The Faculty Advisor, with input from the Site Supervisor, determines the student’s final grade.
If needed, students may arrange for extra lab time at the Downtown Centre in addition to the regularly scheduled student lab hours. Pre-Requisites: The 4 required courses
