
Metallurgy of Iron and Steel Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the Metallurgy Diploma Program, applicants must have:
- an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent;
- be a mature student as defined in the Undergraduate Calendar of McMaster University; or
- be deemed an exceptional case.
To join the program, please register in 600-449 Primary Production of Steel. McMaster will contact you to complete your registration in the program.
Note: The metallurgy certificate program does not require you to be proficient in chemistry but some basic knowledge is strongly suggested. We have created a non-credit, self-directed “Chemistry for Metallurgy” course for people who have never taken chemistry or who need a refresher. This course has a continuous intake so you can register at any time.
Chemistry Course (Optional)
The Metallurgy of Iron & Steel Certificate program does not require you to be proficient in chemistry but some basic knowledge is strongly suggested to be successful in the program. If you have never taken a chemistry course before or who need a refresher, we suggest you sign up for the “General Chemistry” course offered through Educator. This self-directed, easy to follow, non-credit course has a continuous intake so you can register at any time. To course costs approximately $35 for one month’s access to the content, you can purchase a longer subscription if needed. You can also find your own chemistry course if needed.
