The undergraduate courses French 1Z06 and French 2Z06 are 6 units and run from September to April.  In order to offer a flexible arrangement for Centre for Continuing Education students, these courses have been split into two terms and students may join at either term.

Students may choose the appropriate course based on their current French language skills.  If a student is interested in joining a class in January, it is recommended that they purchase the courseware for the class and complete the lessons that were covered in the September to December term.  Please see the course descriptions for details.

French Beginners Part 1    CCE-146 (September to December)

This intensive course develops basic skills in both written and spoken French.  Lessons include accents, genders, pronouns, verb formations, articles, expressions, possession, prepositions, adjectives, pronouns, direct objects.

This course is the first term of the undergraduate course French 1Z06.

French Beginners Part 2    CCE-147 (January  to April)

This intensive course develops basic skills in both written and spoken French.  Lessons include days of the week, irregular adjectives, definite and indefinite adjectives, verb tenses, position of pronouns, prepositions, impersonal expressions, reflexive verbs, negative expressions, comparative and superlative, indirect speech.

French Intermediate Part 1    CCE-148 (September to December)

This intensive course is a sequel to French 1Z06 and enhances basic skills in both written and spoken French with a review of grammatical structures and an expansion of vocabulary and conversation practice. Lessons include gender, using geographical locations, expressions with verbs, using the infinitive with verbs, the plural with certain nouns, proper nouns.

French Intermediate Part 2    CCE-149 (January to April)

This intensive course is a sequel to French 1Z06 .  The course enhances basic skills in both written and spoken French with a review of grammatical structures and an expansion of vocabulary and conversation practice. Lessons include advanced adjective formation, expressions, personal pronouns, direct and indirect pronouns, relative, possessive and demonstrative pronouns, advanced verb tenses and formations, temporal expressions, indirect speech.

How to Register

You may register for a French course one of several ways:

1. Fax: Print out the registration form and fax the completed form to (905) 546-1690.  Payment method: credit card.

3. In Person: Come to 50 Main St. East, 2nd Floor.  Payment methods: cash, cheque, debit, credit card.

4. By Mail: Send the completed registration form with payment to The Centre for Continuing Education, DTC, 2nd Floor, McMaster University, 1280 Main St. West, Hamilton, ON  L8S 4L8

Refund Schedule

Students who withdraw from a course are subject to the Center for Continuing Education's refund schedule:

Time Frame 

General Interest Course 

Withdrawal 5 business days or more before first class

80% refund

Withdrawal less than 5 days before first class and before the third class

70% refund

Withdrawal after the third class and beyond

No refund
