Course Fees

Course fees vary depending upon duration and materials.  Fees are noted in the Current Schedule and when browsing for courses in the registration portal.  Participants receive materials, beverage refreshments, and a light lunch.  Lunch is not included in half-day sessions.

Courses are held at the McMaster University Downtown Centre, 50 Main Street East in Hamilton.

Full payment must be received in order to confirm a registration.

Some courses include assignments that must be completed prior to class such as reading articles or viewing video clips, completing a self-assessment, or other activities that specifically relate to the course topic.  If a course includes a pre-class assignment, participants will receive instructions via email a minimum of one week before the course.

To obtain a letter of attendance (if needed for reimbursement) and to view your assignment results, log in to the Centre for Continuing Education’s registration system and click Grade Report.  You can print a letter for your employer from there.  Please contact the Centre for Continuing Education if you have any questions, 905-525-9140 ext. 24231.

Cancellation and Refund Policy

Individuals must notify the Centre for Continuing Education in writing to withdraw from a course.  Participants who withdraw or fail to find a substitute less than 5 business days before the start of their course will be charged a fee based on the course duration as follows:

  • $50 -- half-day course
  • $100 -- one-day course
  • $150 -- two-day course.

Individuals who do not attend a course and do not notify the Centre for Continuing Education in advance of their absence per the cancellation policy above, will not receive a refund.

McMaster employees: a departmental account number is required when registering in the event that a cancellation fee is assessed.

Participants may withdraw or transfer to a different course 5 business days or more before the start of the course at no penalty.

Participant substitutions for the same course are welcome at anytime without penalty. Important:  Be sure to provide the Centre for Continuing Education with a revised registration form and/or contact information for any substitutions.

The Centre for Continuing Education reserves the right to substitute qualified instructors due to unforeseen circumstances.

Course Transfer Policy between Programs

In keeping with our desire to provide flexible programs, students will have the opportunity to transfer up to two days worth of courses between the former MVP Program and any Essentials Program or between any two Essentials Programs. The transferred course(s) must align within the program to which it is transferred. A course may only be transferred once.

Examples:

A participant successfully completed the Managing with Vision and Proficiency MVP Certificate of Completion with the following courses: Project Management, Emotional Intelligence, Problem Solving Primer and Dealing with Difficult People.  The participant may count the Project Management course towards one of the new Essentials Programs, thereby satisfying two days of the program requirement.  After that one transfer, the Project Management course may not be transferred to satisfy any additional Essentials Program requirements.

A participant successfully completed the Communication Essentials Program with the following courses:  Conflict Resolution, Effective Business Writing, Dealing with Difficult People, Giving and Receiving Constructive Feedback, Strengthening Communication with True Colors, and the Art of Active Listening.  The participant may count Conflict Resolution and Effective Business Writing towards the Productivity Essentials Program and select 3 additional days of courses under that program to earn a Productivity Essentials Program Certificate of Completion.

See the current Course Schedule to view the course duration as well as which courses align under the each Essentials Program.
