Courses are offered in a variety of formats: print-based distance, in-class, and intensive block (weekend combinations).  Students may mix and match the formats to suit their needs.

Distance

Distance courses allow students to balance studies with their schedules and can be completed anywhere in Canada or around the world.

Distance courses begin on the first of each month and are available year-round.  Based on the unit value courses are of four or six months duration, but may be completed more quickly, depending on the student’s pace.

Distance courses have both a course end deadline and individual assignment deadlines (usually one every three to four weeks). Your course guide will contain lessons and assignments, which are graded by course evaluators and sent back with comments.

Tutoring assistance is available for guidance and clarification.

The deadline to register for a distance course is the 22nd of the month prior (except for January 1st start dates when the deadline is December 10).

All emailed distance assignments must be accompanied by the Electronic Grading Chart. Please paste this chart into the first page of your assignment.

In-Class (Evenings)

If you prefer to learn in a classroom setting in our Hamilton, Ontario location, courses are offered during the week in the evening hours.  Two unit courses run once a week (3 hours) for 10 weeks, while three unit courses run once a week (3 hours) for 13 weeks. In-class courses are offered on a rotating schedule and will not be available every year. Very few addictions courses run in this format.

Block Courses:

These courses are designed especially for people, in Ontario and across Canada, who live too far from the university to make attending evening lectures practical, or who are not available to take courses during evening hours. Courses are offered over two full weekends (Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 – 5:00). Students registering for this format must allocate time, both before and after the blocks to complete course work and requirements.  See the schedule section for current offerings. Courses in the weekend block format typically have a pre-course assignment due on the first day.
