What does CMS stand for?

CMS stands for Content Management System.

What is a web CMS?

A web CMS is a tool that acts as a central depository for the data that is to be presented on a website. It provides general users with the tools to add content, but not edit overal presentation of the data which is controlled and secured by site administrators.

What is Ektron eMPower?

Ektron eMPower is the CMS that McMaster University uses to manage its website services.

Do visitors to a CMS managed site require any special hardware or software?

No. Visitors to your website do not know that a website is managed by a CMS. It acts and behaves normally like any other HTML webpage.

What is a Content Block?

A Content Block is a region on a webpage with variable text that is managed by the CMS software. The information surrounding a Content Block is the remainder of an Ektron Template that has its data protected from modification.

What is an Ektron Template?

An Ektron Template is a CFM file with special ColdFusion tags by Ektron which define Content Blocks.

What is a Dreamweaver Template?

A Dreamweaver Template is an HTML file with special instructions that prevent Dreamweaver users from editing content outside of defined editing regions.

Who needs Macromedia Dreamweaver?

Nobody requires Macromedia Dreamweaver to develop for the CMS. It is recommended and supported because the Dreamweaver Templates provided by McMaster make it easier to setup web pages.
