Lead Investigator:

Pavlos S. Kanaroglou, School of Geography & Earth Sciences

Team:

  • John D. Brannan, Firestone Institute for Respiratory Health
  • Pat Deluca, School of Geography & Earth Sciences
  • Liesel D'silva, Division of Respirology
  • Parameswaran Nair, Division of Respirology
  • Julie Wallace, School of Geography & Earth Sciences
  • This is a collaborative project between the Centre for Spatial Analysis (CSpA), School of Geography and Earth Sciences, and the Division of Respirology at McMaster University. CSpA has expertise in estimating emissions from traffic on the streets of Hamilton and the Firestone Institute maintains a database on patients with respiratory illnesses. It is well established that air pollution is a risk factor in lung disease. Our objective in this limited study will be to investigate whether a relationship is evident between airway inflammation and levels of air pollution at the patient’s place of residence.
