Credit Card Payment Method - F.A.Q.

1.  When can I start using credit card to pay my student account?
Effective August 30, 2013 the McMaster Student Accounts department opened its online payment services to include credit card payments.  Students/parents can now use credit card to pay their McMaster student account any time of the year.  A non-refundable convenience fee of 1.95% will be charged on the payment amount.

2.  Why is a convenience fee being charged if I use credit card to pay my student account?
Credit card payment is an additional option offered to students to pay their account, however, there is a cost associated with this service.  An agreement has been signed with Moneris Solutions whereby Moneris will provide the ability to pay your student account (i.e. tuition, etc). fees using a credit card.  In exchange for this service, Moneris will charge the students a 1.95% convenience fee.  This fee is set by Moneris and is subject to change.

3.  What does “the convenience fee is non-refundable” mean?
The convenience fee is charged and collected by Moneris to allow for the payment by credit card.  This fee is not applied toward your McMaster student account balance.  Once your payment transaction has been completed, the convenience fee is not refundable.  If your payment results in an overpayment of your student account (due to an error in amount paid or you drop courses in time for a refund), the student account portion can be refunded, but the original convenience fee paid to Moneris cannot.

4.  What type of credit cards are accepted?
Currently, VISA, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards are accepted.

5.  Can I pay by credit card in person at the Student Accounts office?
No, payment by credit card is an online service only.  However, the Student Accounts office (Gilmour Hall, Room 209) has computers set up for students who need help making their online credit card payments.  Students must ensure that they bring their credit cards with them and have all information required to complete the payment through the online access.

6.  How do I make a payment by credit card?
Click the “Pay Now” button located on the Payment Agreement or the student Account Statement.  Follow the directions for payment using credit cards.  You should have your card with you at the time of payment.

7.  Will I receive a receipt?
Yes, our online process will provide you with a confirmation of payment.  All students should review their student Account Statement regularly to ensure all payments have been received.

8.  How quickly does a credit card payment show on my student account?
Your payment will show as “pending” on your student Account Statement within minutes after making the payment.  It will show as a payment received the next business day.

9.  What if I don’t want to use a credit card and/or be charged the convenience fee?
