POLICY:

  1. PURPOSE

    To carry out all details related to the importation of foreign goods.

  2. SCOPE

    This policy applies to all international purchases.

  3. RESPONSIBILITY

    It shall be the responsibility of the Customs & Traffic Unit to act as a liaison between the University and the University's Customs Broker, to prepare all documents required for the Customs Broker, and to determine the correct customs tariff classification for entry of goods as required by the Broker to carry out its duties.

  4. GENERAL

    Shipments arriving via Air Freight and released (clearing Customs) in the morning are usually delivered the same day. Shipments released in the afternoon are usually delivered the following working day.

    To avoid loss, suppliers are requested not to ship perishable items later than Tuesday of each week.

    When rush delivery of a non-perishable order is required, please notify the Customs & Traffic Unit of the details in order that immediate release of the goods from Canada can be arranged, providing that information is known prior to arrival of goods.

    All importations of live animals must be purchased through the Central Animal Facility located in the Health Sciences Centre - 1U50, Extension 22366.
