According to Purchasing Policy P-160, Disposal of University Surplus Assets, University Departments must be the first area to be provided with the opportunity to bid on the goods.

You can advertise the goods for sale via McMaster's Surplus Auction web site.

If you find that no University department is interested in acquiring the surplus asset, please contact John Bentley (customs@mcmaster.ca) who will post the surplus asset on an external government auction site.

Obsolete Equipment

Purchasing Policy P-160, "Disposal of University Surplus Assets", states (see note 5 under "Procedures") that surplus University assets "will be made available for sale/utilisation" to other University departments before being offerred to employees or outside organizations. However, from time-to-time, there will be suplus assets that have outgrown our needs or are simply too obsolete that there is no real utilization for them on campus. To that end, we have had discussions with the folks at Amity/Goodwill Industries about such scenarios. They would be happy to be contacted to arrive on campus to pick up the item(s).

If there is such a situation, please contact me (see note 6 under "Procedures") in order that an assessment may be made on the asset. Should a decision be made to not advertise the assest(s) for sale, we now have an outlet that we can use for the disposal. You are now able to contact Michael Kuzyk of Amity/Goodwill Industries (see info below) and arrange to have them arrive on campus to remove the item(s). While they will almost consider anything, the folks at Amity/Goodwill are especially interested in obsolete pc's, keyboards, cpu's and furniture. Alternatively, you can provide the details to Purchasing Resources and we will make the telephone call and direct them to the appropriate department/area.

When you are making these arrangements, you should ensure that your documented asset records reflect this transaction.
