Biosafety Level 2
Biosafety Level 2 training requires an orientation session with a number of quizzes contained on this page. After completion of this orientation, you must submit yearly BSL2 training updates. More update info here.
If you are working with cells, tissue culture, viruses, bacteria, blood or body fluids, or biological source toxins you are required to participate in Biosafety Training.

2) You must pick up and complete an "in-class" quiz plus the "addendum". The material comes from:
- The PHAC video "Containment Level 2 Laboratory". Instructions on registering and locating the videos is found here.
- Our webpage on waste disposal
- Our BSL2 Training Handout Package (see above)
- The PHAC video "Principles of Laboratory Biosafety (4) General Safety Practices for Containment Laboratories" Instructions on registering and locating the videos is found here.
- The PHAC video "Principles of Laboratory Biosafety (6) Operational Practices in a Containment Level 2 Laboratory" Instructions on registering and locating the videos is found here.
3) NSERC, LAI and BSC Quiz. To complete this quiz you must register for the online PHAC training website and watch the following TWO videos:
- "Principles of Laboratory Biosafety (3) Laboratory Acquired Infections" Instructions on registering and locating the videos is found here.
- "Principles of Laboratory Biosafety (7) Biological Safety Cabinets" Instructions on registering and locating the videos is found here.
Then read NSERC MOU on Roles in Managing Grants & Awards - READ schedule 13.
4) Read the Human Pathogens & Toxins (HPTA) presentation and complete the quiz then hand it in.
5) Record any lab specific training you have participated in on the Biosafety Training Record. Do not hand this in. Please place it in the lab where all the training records are stored.
All Principal Investigators - BSL1 or BSL2
