Statement of Status for Importation

Statement of Status Process

You will prepare a "Statement of Status" for one of the following two reasons:

  • You wish to import an item that does not formally require an import permit, but you wish to have documenation at the border
  • The the description of the item you are importing may lead one to believe that there is a BSL2 or higher pathogen in the package

From PHAC:

"In order to facilitate border clearance, our office can issue you a Notice Letter indicating that a permit is not required.  If the importer wishes to obtain this letter, please provide the following information:

1. Name, address, phone and fax number of the importer.
2. Description of material being imported.
3. Name and address of the supplier.
4. Signed Statement of Status form ... which must be completed by the importer."
