Building an Inclusive & Accessible Community
Employment Standards
The final proposed Employment Accessibility Standard is now under review by the Minister of Community and Social Services for final approval. It was reviewed by the public in early 2009, and developed and edited to incorporate the public's view by a committee comprised of people from the business community and persons with disabilities.
The goal of the proposed Accessible Employment standard is to help employers create equal employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The standard will set out specific rules with regards to the:
- Recruitment,
- Retention, and
- Accommodation in the workplace
of persons with disabilities. This standard will apply to all organizations in Ontario with at least one employee. McMaster University is already an equal-opportunities employer.
